D+PAD Magazine re-launches, includes Issuu support

One of our favourite reads, D+PAD Magazine, have completely re-launched their website this morning.

The new look and feel is slick and full of interesting, well-written news. The former website only included a link to the magazine, so bringing current stories to the site is welcome move.

We have also noticed the addition of an 'Issuu' format button that will likely be available for Issue 9 onwards. Issuu is an online publishing platform that helps deliver magazines online, and D+PAD will be a great addition to their repository.

Go and check out the new D+PAD Magazine site now.

Develop 08; Echochrome in Home, user levels pass the 2,500 mark

During their speech at Develop 08, SCEJ revealed that the total number of user levels created for Echochrome have exceeded 2,500. These levels represent work uploaded from players in 26 countries worldwide.

Interestingly, the UK has managed to gain third place despite only having had the game for a few short weeks.

The success of these user-created levels and content within a PSN title is good news for the creators of AAA PS3 Exclusive, LittleBigPlanet.

In addition, SCEJ showed a Home arcade machine that will allow you to play the game directly inside the forthcoming virtual world.

Develop 08; Naughty Dog talk Uncharted, shop

Richard Lemarchand spoke at the Develop conference today about their experience in producing Uncharted for the PS3.

Naughty Dog are passionate about their company structure, where no one person only does management - everyone takes responsibility for producing the end product.

The result? They've never missed a deadline.

It took them 3 years to create Uncharted, one third of which was spent in pre-production. You can hear more about that process at the Naughty Dog website in their Press area.

We'll have more on the early days of Uncharted soon.

Develop 08: Elite sequel is scheduled

David Braben has been talking at Develop 08 in Brighton about his forthcoming title The Outsider and the possibility of a new Elite.

Braben says, in this piece at GameSpot, that Elite IV is scheduled - only not until he has finished other projects.

Of course, that doesn't tell us much in terms of whether Elite IV will be PC-bound or will feature on our favourite black monolith, but in case Mr. Braben is reading, we'll point you once again to the incredible middleware from Qube we believe could help realise a 21st century Elite.

Firmware 2.42 is live; ready for Life with PlayStation?

Firmware 2.4 has gone live on the PS3.

According to Eric Lempel at SCEA, this update "improves the playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation format software".

Given the PS3 community were told that Life with PlayStation was due to launch before the end of the month, we wonder if there is code in this update that might be made 'live' on Thursday with a corresponding PS Store download...

I guess we'll find out if LwP is going to arrive on time in less than 48 hours.

[UPDATE] There is at least anecdotal evidence suggesting Trophy and gamer profile load times are faster. Let us know if you experience this, or any other improvements, in the comments...

Midnight Club: Los Angeles is gunning for Burnout's crown

Rockstar have just launched a new trailer for Midnight Club: Los Angeles.

As you can see from the picture, they have opted for an extensive map that looks not too dissimilar to that other hot racing title, Burnout Paradise.

The trailer shows clean graphics, motorbikes and night races (the latter two features will appear in Burnout within it's next update, due next month) and what appears to be some kind of back story as well.

Let's just hope the cars handle better than they do in GTA: IV!

Midnight Club: Los Angeles arrives in Europe on the 10th October, three days after the US release.

Ferrari PS3 DLC is on the way

Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli - to give its full name - is about to receive some rather nice downloadable content.

Consisting of one new track, the formidable Nurburgring F1, and five new cars (including the amazing Enzo), the pack will ship in August.

In addition to the bundle, which will cost only £3.99, the cars will be available individually also.

The DLC is expected to go to Sony this week for certification. Knowing that the process usually takes 7-14 days, we should expect to see this hit the streets, accompanied by the smell of burning rubber, on the 7th or 14th August.

We'll have some more information fou soon, once Develop 08 has moved on...
