We can never have enough options can we? It seems these days that just when you think you’ve got it made with your console and gaming set-up, something new comes out. Well, Sony is about to continue that trend by offering a few new PS3 Slim models.
So what exactly is new about these models?
When Sony announced the PlayStation 3 Slim, we expect it to be lighter, smaller and easier to move around. What we didn’t expect was that the PS3 would become a trusted travel accessory. Well now it could, thanks to a fancy new LCD screen created by Hori.
Having diligently hoovered my original PS every month since the day one purchase, I think that there was dust in places that there really ought not to have been. The fan would kick in even after being on for 10 minutes and the heat coming from my original 60Gb PS3 was a concern to say the least.
So I decided to go for the fat-to-slim upgrade. Turns out there a few things I should have known…
We knew it was coming, but now it’s official: The 250GB slim PS3 is real, and will be coming to the UK and Europe.
For just £284.99 and €349, you can buy a 250GB PS3 with two platinum titles or inFamous from the 1st of October.
Those crazy cats over at Colorware are up to their old tricks once again.
Not content with “colourising” the original PS3 when it came out back in 2006, the custom console company (we like alliteration here) have now turned their paint covered hands to the new PS3 Slim.
The first details of the reception that the new PS3 Slim has received are starting to crawl in, and it’s good news.
According to Chart-Track, sales in the UK are eleven times higher last week than the one before. Granted, stock for the original PS3 was small and many gamers were waiting for the Slimmer console, but this is still a massive achievement.
The one feature that the PS3 Slim lacks but all of its bigger and fatter brothers do have is the support for ‘Other OS’, in other words the ability to install Linux on the system.
Although it isn’t really a feature that has taken off, some users are a little annoyed that they cannot enjoy the same pleasure as others
Recently, ShopTo.com announced they were taking pre-orders for the new PS3 Slim at only £229.00 in the UK. So we thought we’d do some digging around to see if this really was the best deal for British PS3 fans.
As with any article of this type, the details are correct at the time of writing. With ShopTo putting pressure on other retailers, anyone could meet or beat that deal at any moment.
So where should you place your bets if you want a PS3 Slim next week? We’d suggest to take a look at all the options first…
We’ve all seen the pics and lusted after the slimmer version of Sony’s behemoth, but what if 120 GB just won’t cut it in your media rich world?

Sony’s megaton announcement yesterday at Gamescom confirming the impending arrival of the PS3 Slim is not even 24 hours old and already we have a wealth of new information, stories and even rumours to wade through this morning.
Here’s a quick round up of what’s happening in a world where the PS3 Slim is no longer fiction, but a stark reality.
We’re still at Gamescom and the wi-fi is a little fuzzy at the moment so, just in case you missed our Twitter feed, we’ll keep this brief.
Sony have finally announced a price cut for the PS3 while also unveiling the oft-rumoured PS3 Slim.
Taking to the stage at Cologne, Sony big-wig Kazou Hirai talked about how Sony have a bright future and how Gamescom is officially “the third major date on our gaming calendars” (after E3 and TGS).
But enough of the pleasantries, Kaz also wanted to touch upon form and certain things “slim.”
Check out the following link over at C&VG for a look at some behind the scenes footage taken at Rocksteady, the studio behind the upcoming and eagerly anticipated Batman: Arkham Asylum.
On its own, it’s an interesting exposé with interviews from the likes of comic-book maven and game writer Paul Dini to some pretty cool mocap shots of martial artists going through their acrobatic moves, helping the animators capture Batman’s unique fighting style within the game.
What is also intriguing from the footage is, right at the end when the camera pans across the Rocksteady development floor, there appears to be a blurred console sitting vertical on one of the developer’s desks.
Hatimaki blog have got their hands on a compelling notice from a 7-11 convenience store in Japan indicating that pre-orders for the 80GB version of the PS3 will no longer be accepted from this Sunday.
Can we really trust a supermarket though? Well, found at nearly every corner of Nippon, the Japanese flavour of 7-11 doesn’t just sell groceries and confectionery but also extends their range to electronics and, well, material of a more adult nature. Seriously, you wouldn’t believe what we found next to the Pringles in Koiwa.
Though still very much steeped in myth and hearsay, when a popular online retailer lists a pre-order scheme for the still unconfirmed PS3 slim, we sit up and take notice.
This is exactly what has happened with the German branch of Amazon now taking orders for what some people are calling Sony’s relaunch of the PS3 console.
Only five days ago we shared the news about North America getting a Limited Edition Crystal White Slim PS3 bundle. It arrives in stores in five days from the date on this post. Sony has added some additional images of the crystal white PS3 to the pot. Are you ready to raise the stakes?
If we wrote an article every time a major retailer drops the price of the PS3 today, we won’t get to the other great stories that are emerging so – let’s just get this one out of the way.
Thanks to our friends over at TSA, we now know that Kmart — big, evil and ubiquitous Kmart — have announced on their official web-site that they’ll be selling the PS3 at a new lower price. What’s more, they’ve also hinted at a “New Exciting PlayStation 3”.
Reported over at MCV (and pretty much all across the interweb), U.K. retailers are claiming that, according to Sony, they should not expect any new PS3 stock until later this month or possibly September.
The news comes during a period of immense speculation of an impending announcement from Sony with such stock strangling measures occurring in the past, usually when a new SKU is about to launch on the market in conjunction with a sales-injecting price-cut.
With Sony expected to announce the PS3 Slim at Gamescom next week, mark this one down as yet another red flag in the “PS3 Slim Lives!” phenomenon.
Since it launched in October, PlayStation Mobile has offered gaming on the cheap for PS Vita and Android devices. Though it hasn’t been promoted as much as it should have been, the service still boasts some awesome little titles if you know where to look.
This year’s nominations for BEST PS MOBILE GAME are…
