PS3 Attitude's Comprehensive Leipzig Review, Part 2

Part dos of our Leipzig review:

SingStar Vol. 3 Party Edition
With 2.2 million downloads to date, no wonder SingStar is getting a big push. SingStar's PS2-PS3 compatibility was announced and later explained for the PS3 version. Vol. 3 artists includes: Michael Jackson, Barry Manilow, The Ting Tings, Lionel Richie, Queen, Katrina and the Waves, among others. Officially announced tracks are:
  • Barry Manilow, Copacabana
  • David Bowie, Space Oddity
  • Stevie Wonder & Paul McCartney, Ebony & Ivory
  • Timbaland feat. Keri Hilson, The Way I Are
  • Coldplay, Viva La Vida

Wish upon a SingStar
PS2's SingStar Singalong with Disney was announced for PAL territories only. Songs from Aladdin, Toy Story, Pinocchio, The Lion King, The Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, 101 Dalmatians, The Little Mermaid, and more will be made available in local languages across PAL territories.

Introducing EyePet
Read our recent post of this promising PlayStation Eye game. I wonder which pet will try to hump the other first...

Heavy Rain
This is a game I'm truly looking forward to. Actually this is the only game I'm looking forward to. And not just because of the graphics...that's just a bonus. A demo was confirmed by Quantic Dream's founder David Cage, a gameplay trailer was released, and the developers are touting an immersive and emotionally-engaging experience. Yum, yum. Normally I would scoff at all this fancy talk from a game developer, but this is Quantic Dream. The people responsible for Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit are not to be taken lightly.

New PSP Hardware
The rumors were (somewhat) true, a new PSP was officially announced. The PSP-3000 improves the LCD allowing for higher image quality and more definition when in sunlight. This new PSP also comes with a built-in microphone, perfect for you Skypers out there. Available in PAL territories (Europe, Middle East, Australia and New Zealand) from 15th October 2008 as a bundle, including one software title valued at €199. For NTSC regions the PSP-3000 will also be offered as the Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters bundle (including a 4GB Memory Entertainment Pack) for $199.99, while a core pack will be available later this year at $169.99.

Will there be a part tres? Come back and find out.

PS3 Attitude's Comprehensive Leipzig Review, Part 1

Another year, another Leipzig. It's time to re-visit our on-site coverage by our guest writer Alexander Chalkidis with some new info from the Leipzig aftermath. Let's begin with part uno:

New 160 GB PS3 SKU
The new SKU comes as a bundle for North America this November for $499.99. The Uncharted: Drake's Fortune PS3 bundle includes:
  • 160GB PS3 system (same specs as the current 80GB model)
  • Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
  • PAIN PLAYSTATION Network voucher
  • DUALSHOCK 3 Wireless controller
Europeans will enjoy this SKU the 31st of October for €449. Exactly the same specs as the current 80GB offering but will include €70 of PLAYSTATION Network content (expected to vary by territory).

PlayTV launch Dated
As we reported earlier, 19th of September is the date you lucky Europeans can (finally) enjoy PlayTV. You may want to check out this recent unboxing for more info.

Little Big Planet
Launching on the 29th of October for Europe and in the mysterious date of "October 2008" for America. Join us in our longing for all things LBP here, here, here and of course here.

PS3 Wireless Keypad
Great potential that both first and third party developers will surely overlook (*cough* Touch pad mode*cough*). I hope someone notices. Key features include:
  • QWERTY keypad designed for fast, thumbs-only typing.
  • Touch pad mode turns the main key area into a touch pad. When touch pad button is pressed, user can not use the keys for character input but can slide her finger on this area to select something on the screen. On the internet browser, user can see a cursor when this mode is set on.
  • Dedicated short cut keys provide instant access to text-based communication applications on the PLAYSTATION®Network.
  • Automatic pairing with the PS3™ system via a USB cable.
  • Charges by connecting it directly to the PS3™ system using a USB cable.
  • Bluetooth® 2.0
  • Up to 33 feet (10 meters) operating range
  • USB 2.0 full speed (for battery charging and Bluetooth® pairing only)
  • Rechargeable Lithium-ion polymer battery (Capacity – 610mAh)
  • Approx Weight: 60g

Free Streaming Music from VidZone
VidZone will deliver free streaming music videos to the PlayStation 3. A trial service is scheduled for launch in early 2009 for Europe, Australia and New Zealand (no yankee love). You will be able to stream VidZone’s music videos for free on your PS3 or your PSP via Remote Play. You can even make your own playlists from their vast library. Apparently all of VidZone's features (maybe even more) will be available for PS3 users. There will be a small fee if you want to download songs, music videos or ringtones to your mobile phone though.

Demo and DLC material for Heavy Rain

While Quantic Dream denies to unveil any details about the scenario of Heavy Rain, they kindly decided to let us know some other details about the game (you devils!).

The announcements were made during Sony's press conference at Games Convention 2008 (Leipzig). David Cage (founder of Quantic) stated that there will be a demo before the release of the final version of the game. But that's not all. Cage went a little further by saying that DLC for Heavy Rain will be available via the PlayStation Network.

Despite the tempting questions (most of them about the storyline) he was asked, none of them were answered. All he said was that Quantic Dream has spent an enormous amount of time in the sector of the scenario, with many Hollywood scriptwriters contributing in the development.

[Thanks to George for the tip]

Heavy Rain; want some images? Here you go...

Heavy Rain is a title that keeps on asking the question 'wow, but what's it going to play like?'.

These latest screenshots and don't really offer an answer to that question yet, but they do still make you start your sentence with 'wow'.

Quantic Dream were responsible for one of my favourite 'cult' game releases - the quirky Omikron, a collaboration with David Bowie. That in itself underlines their artistic bent, and these latests screens point towards a highly engaging, emotional experience.

It is thought that the female character in these images is the same as the one in the E3 2006 'Casting' video (below), only with a lot more spit and polish. Well - not spit. That's heavy rain on her face.

See all six images over at Ripten...
