Develop 08; Echochrome in Home, user levels pass the 2,500 mark

During their speech at Develop 08, SCEJ revealed that the total number of user levels created for Echochrome have exceeded 2,500. These levels represent work uploaded from players in 26 countries worldwide.

Interestingly, the UK has managed to gain third place despite only having had the game for a few short weeks.

The success of these user-created levels and content within a PSN title is good news for the creators of AAA PS3 Exclusive, LittleBigPlanet.

In addition, SCEJ showed a Home arcade machine that will allow you to play the game directly inside the forthcoming virtual world.

European PS Store update for 10th July

Echochrome finally makes its way to the European store today, despite having been available in Japan and the US for a while.

Both the PS3 and PSP versions are available for your buying pleasure.

Other than that, it's a bit of a lacklustre update. Where, for example, is Elefunk, which has now appeared on the Japanese store? Why has Super Puzzle Fighter still not made an appearance, despite the fact that the US version now supports multiple languages?

We can't complain too much, given the massive improvement of late regarding EU Store updates, but sometimes we do wonder why the content gulf still exists between regions.

Here's the list:

Echochrome for PS3 (£6.99)
Echochrome for PSP (£4.99)

Demos (all free)

Top Spin 3

High Velocity Bowling - Amber Vorhees (£0.69)

Videos (all free)

Movement - 8 videos
Kung Fu Panda movie trailer

European PS Store update for 22nd May

No full games this week, but a good mix of demos for both the PS3 and PSP, as well as a bunch of add-ons, videos, themes and wallpapers.

I say 'demos' but as far as the PS3 is concerned, I mean 'demo'. Having already experienced the pain of Iron Man from the US PS Store, I won't want to relive the experience again.

We played The Bourne Conspiracy already too, and I have to report the actual game is looking better than the demo, which seems to have too many 'breaks' to show how fluid the finished product is.

Here's the full list:

Demos (all free)

The Bourne Conspiracy
Iron Man
Everybody's Golf 2
Beginner's demo for PSP
Everybody's Golf 2 Intermediate demo for PSP
Ultimate Board Games Collection demo for PSP

High Stakes Poker video chat (free)
Go!Explore map packs for PSP (£14.99 each)

Videos (all free)

Haze music video
High Stakes: Poker trailer
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull movie trailer

Themes and Wallpapers (all free)

PixelJunk Monsters: Encore wallpaper

Echochrome demo now available

As we announced last week, the echochrome demo is now available to download on the Japanese PS Store.

You'll need a Japanese PSN account to get your hands on it, of course.

For those of you that grab a copy, here's a quick guide:

  • The d-pad or left analogue moves the perspective
  • The triangle button stops your character (thinking mode)
  • The X button speeds up your character

That's pretty much all you need for the demo. The full echochrome game will be available in Europe this May.

PAIN finally on the way, along with Elefunk and echochrome

It's been a long, long wait, but according to a recent press release from Sony, PAIN will arrive on the PlayStation Store this month.

When it does launch here it will be accompanied by some of the additional characters already available in the US, with plans to release up to ten additional ragdolls.

The press release also states that Elefunk will launch in April whilst echochrome will turn up this May.

Elefunk is a game that requires you to build routes from various materials to stop the herd falling into a pit of oblivion. It looks cute and sounds like a pachyderm version of Lemmings.

If you want to get an early taste of echochrome, don't forget the Japanese PS Store will get a demo this week.

That still means there's a whole bunch of releases Sony are keeping from the PS Store, but this is a good start. And whilst the press release didn't mention anything specific, we do know that Super Puzzle Fighter is now in various European languages, so surely that can't be far behind.

Echochrome demo coming to Japan next week

Want to get an early taste of what Echochrome has to offer? You do?! Good.

Because next week the PS3 version of Echochrome will be made available, in demo form, on the Japanese PS Store. Not only that, but the PSP version will also be available via the PlayStation Store for PC and at the various PlayStation Spot locations across Japan.

So for those of you who have a Japanese PSN account, get ready for some mad Escher-like black & white puzzling - your first taste of Echochrome's brilliance is less than a week away.
