UK PS3 charts: CoD WaW leads the race

Submitted by MeEdIC on Tuesday, 25 November 200815 Comments

Welcome back. You're a regular here, so why not follow us on Twitter too...

5575127x2 UK PS3 charts: CoD WaW leads the raceEven though CoD WaW sales fell 51%, it managed to maintain the first place of the British charts, according to Chart Track. With so many games coming out this period, it’s natural to see many ups and downs in games sales. The battle is harsh and only the strongest survive.

So without further delays, here are Chart Track’s UK charts for week ending November 22nd.

Click through to see the Top 10…

1. Call of Duty: World at War (Activision Blizzard)

2. Need For Speed: Undercover (Electronic Arts)

3. Tomb Raider: Underworld (Eidos)

4. LittleBIGPlanet (Sony Computer Ent.)

5. FIFA 09 (Electronic Arts)

6. Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 (KONAMI)

7. Motorstorm: Pacific Rift (Sony Computer Ent.)

8. Guitar Hero: World Tour (Activision Blizzard)

9. Mirror’s Edge (Electronic Arts)

10. Midnight Club: Los Angeles (Take 2)

We already mentioned that CoD WaW is in first place, but Undercover second? I mean, COME ON! We all know it SUCKS, why the high sales? Stop buying it people!

In the third place, we meet Ms. Lara. If you consider that 51% of Underworld sales come from the PS3 version, it makes sense. What does surprise us is the loyalty to the Tomb Raider franchise people seem to have. Although the game is quite mediocre, people tend to buy it. Even more surprising is the fact that the PS3 version is selling better. Xbox 360 had an exclusive demo and MS made a deal with Eidos for future DLC, but people still want to play Lara on their PS3.

FIFA 09 remains the king of footie this year, with PES 2009 following. Without a doubt, EA did a great job with the latest instalment of FIFA. They deserve to be kings this year.

The absence of Rock Band 2 in Europe seems to have had a positive impact on Activision’s Guitar Hero: World Tour, since it’s now 8th.

At 9th place, we have DICE’s gem Mirror’s Edge. It is quite disappointing to see such marvellous games not selling as expected. Maybe if you stopped buying NFS Undercover, Mirror’s Edge might got the credit it deserves.

Finally, MIdnight Club: Los Angeles completes the top 10. It is known that MC: LA is way better than this year’s NFS. For the third time, STOP BUYING NFS UNDERCOVER. If you want an arcade racer, buy Midnight Club. If you just have money to spare, give Mirror’s Edge a chance.

    Thanks for dropping by Madgunmax.

I hate to state the blindingly obvious, but Gears 2 isn’t on the UK PS3 Charts because Gears 2 isn’t on the PS3 – either in the UK or anywhere else in the World.

Unless you know something we don’t! :-)

NFS: Undercover is certainly not a good game, but I can’t agree with Mirror’s Edge. It’s a bold attempt at something different and it mostly pulls it off.

I don’t understand your comment about TR:U, since it is in the charts at No. 3.

  • LCaruana says:

I take it you still don’t like Tomb Raider Danny_D? :-) I’m also a bit surprised to see NFS Undercover at #3.

  • Brodiesan says:

Yeah, come on Danny, stop leaving us in suspense. Where’s the review?
    ;)

  • madgunmax says:

sorry neva knew its only ps3 charts.
tr underworld is gd game. danny d tryin 2 say its not.
mirriors edge is not somethin new, copied ideas from prince of persia n tomb raider. not worth buyin for £40. EA HAVE LOST COMPLETELY. THEY GOT THE MONEY THE WANTED AND NOW TRYING TO DO SOMETHIN NEW BUT NOT GOIN WELL 4 DEM.

  • MeEdIC says:

Dear madgunmax, from the one hand you say that Mirror’s Edge does not have anything new to offer. From the other hand you say that EA is trying something new. Make up your mind, will ya?!?

EA have changed over the last few years. New IPs are thrown at the table (Dead Space, Mirror’s Edge) and new ideas/features for their existing games are being created. We saw that on the FIFA series and in Battlefield Bad Company.

The way I see it, titles such as NFS:U and NBA Live are just a way to make money for the big projects. Every multi-billion company has them; EA is no exception.

From what we’ve seen, EA is doing pretty good actually. If you had taken a look at the charts, you’d see that amongst the 30 top selling games, 6 of them are being published by EA. Ok, one or two of them maybe suck, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles. We can’t have everything, right?!?

Bottom line; STOP BUYING NFS UNDERCOVER! :D

  • madgunmax says:

dear MeEdic, i said EA trying to bring new ideas but the ideas r not new. u talking about DEAD SPACE n MIRRIORS EDGE AS something new!!! the whole idea comes from bioshock and 4 mirriors edge, its half prince of persia and af tomb raider. fifa ??????????? all they have added is skills, nothing new, how realistic is dat wen u can just keep tappin x button and pass all day long. pro evo dnt av licences and their gameplay mite b similar to last series but it is still realistic and more fun. people buy FIFA cus its easy 2 get on wid and licences, jus tap O N SCORE.
4 people who buying AND bought NFS DEN TAKE IT BK OR TRADE IN 4 MIDNIGHT CLUB.

  • Brodiesan says:

    Hey MadGunMax,

If you look close enough you’ll find that any new games contains some degree of homage or pastiche to an existing IP. You could argue that LittleBigPlanet is a rip off of Mario (if you were crazy enough) considering they’re both platformers.

Mirror’s Edge has elements of PoP (especially the wall-running) but the execution is COMPLETLEY different.

Dead Space and BioShock? I honestly don’t see the connection myself other than they are both FPSs and atmospheric. Dead Space reminds me more of Resident Evil on a space-ship. Once again, if you looked hard enough, you could also say that it’s inspired by the old Aliens Vs. Predator games.

The point here is that NOTHING is completely new. The fact that ME and DS are trying to differentiate themselves away form the norm by adding new elements is to be applauded. This is why both IPs made it in our “Best New IP” category in the PS3 Attitude awards.

Make sure you enforce your opinion by checking it out and voting.

    GO VOTE!

    :)

  • KosmoCrisis says:

May I point out that if one were to place the innards of an XBOX 360 into the body of a PS3, then in fact you could say that Gears of War is on PS3.

    Its a stretch though.

  • LCaruana says:

@KosmoCrisis, One could then say you just ruined your PS3 ;-) or at the very least you would then have to worry about the Red ring of Death on a PS3 :-)
