Introducing MLB 09: The Show’s Cover Athlete And Improved AI

Submitted by on Thursday, 22 January 20094 Comments

mlb_coverSay hello to my little friend Dustin Pedroia of the Boston Red Sox.

Yup, we have no clue who he is.  But how could we?  Most of the PS3 Attitude team is European and as one half of the North American PS3A duo, all I know about baseball is that you must spit a lot, rearrange your crotchal area repeatedly and smack your fellow teammates in the butt at all times.

Majiesto, our other ‘yank’ told me never to play with him ever again and kicked me off the summer baseball league… why?

Anyway, this year’s ‘Show’ is all about getting as realistic as possible.  The team admits that there were some rough spots with last year’s ‘Show’, rough spots that now have been replaced by state of the art turf.  Failed baseball analogies apart, the MLB 09 team worked diligently on enhancing four key aspects of MLB 08 that were not up to par according to their own expertise:

  • CPU Fielder routes to the ball
  • Infielder Hot Shots
  • Tags
  • Pitcher / Batter duel

The video below walks you through these AI enhancements in great detail.  Lucky you, if it were up to me to explain all this stuff then both you and I would be in for one hell of a bumpy ride.  We have decided that this game will be our next attempt to play a baseball game (for me, in decades), how about you guys?
