UK PS3 charts: It just won’t let go
Welcome back. You're a regular here, so why not follow us on Twitter too...
By now, it has become pretty obvious that Brits love First Person Shooters. Call of Duty: World at War is a great example of that love. Since it was released, it hasn’t left the Top 10. Is it that good or has the lack of other FPS titles led to its magnificent sales numbers?
We want to believe that it was a combination of both. It’s a good game; no doubt about it. Now, we shall wait and see how the release of Killzone 2 will affect its sales. Is it time for it to let go?
Probably yes. While games like LittleBIGPlanet have the potential to become long-time sellers, CoD: WaW can be characterised as expendable as only gamers with interest in multiplayer features are likely to return to it.
Without further a due, let’s take a look at Chart Track’s UK charts for week ending 24 January 2009…
1. Call of Duty: World at War (Activision Blizzard)
2. LittleBIGPlanet (Sony Computer Ent.)
3. Skate 2 (Electronic Arts)
4. FIFA 09 (Electronic Arts)
5. The Lord of the Rings: Conquest (Electronic Arts)
6. Resistance 2 (Sony Computer Ent.)
7. Fallout 3 (Bethesda Softworks)
8. Need For Speed: Undercover (Electronic Arts)
9. Grand Theft Auto IV (Take 2)
10. Guitar Hero: World Tour (Activision Blizzard)
Except from the “regulars”, this week we see “new faces” in the Top 10. Skate 2 made a dynamic entry, climbing up to the third place. We can’t say that we didn’t see it coming, since many gamers were looking out for its release (including me). Now to see if it can keep up and continue selling copies.
Another title released by EA has also made its way to the Top 10. Pandemic’s most recent creation, LotR: Conquest is now fifth. Despite the controversial criticism it received, it is currently doing pretty good. (Check back for our infamous no-score review of the game this week).
Lastly, Need for Speed: Undercover finally left the Top 5 – about damn time -, falling to eighth place. Let us hope it leaves the Top 10 soon; ‘next week soon’ would be lovely!

I’ve never been a fan of NFS but the friends I have around school and my other haunts, well, their all quite casual about gaming, and they all seem to love NFS.I will admit to not having played the last two games in the series so I have to ask,are they really that accesible?
I’m intrigued by the very concept of launching a new Lord of the Rings game,on paper conquest sounded like an admirable idea at best.
There’s still some love for it six years on though is a sign that people still love hobbits I guess.
I hear the ramblings of my 360 fanboy “friends” in my english classes all the time, and it seems everyone is in agreeance that CoD:WaW is definetley worse than Gears 2 and CoD4.I also hear from a great deal of my more tasteful PLaystation owning friends that Resistance 2 and CoD4 are much better.I think WaW is selling cause it has Call of Duty on the front cover, and people realise soon after their purchase,”wow…This isn’t as good” and then going back on the games I previously mentioned, they still bought it though so it still counts as a sale which goes to the charts.
Little big planet is a game that will last, and I’m glad to see Resistance is still up there.
I was admittedly pissed off with how Resistance 1 was treated,it was consistently the loser in all comparisons between other shooters.
Personally I find Rockband 2 more playable than Guitar Hero IV but there’s a heritage to the GH brand, having five notable games before IV and with Metallica coming out later this year.
Grand Theft Auot IV,is perhaps the most overrated game in the history of gaming. That’s not an attack or criticization on it,just my opinion.
I have never found skating sims particularly interesting, and that’s about it on this lol
to anyone who read everything I wrote, sorry I wrote so much lolz
