Codemasters on a Quest
Yep, that’s right. According to the Codies’ site, the name Jason is becoming less and less popular and – as everyone knows – people with unpopular names are less successful. Apparently.
There’s nothing wrong with improving the position of the name Jason in the UK name popularity stakes, but that’s not what has us scratching our heads …
See, Codemasters are actually holding a competition to get a supply of free games for one year on your chosen console. Great, right? All you have to do is call your kid Jason. Then you go into a draw to win the prize. To enter? Oh, you just send a scan of the Birth Certificate.
In what is very possibly one of the most unusual press spins we have seen in quite some time, this all relates to the recent release of Rise of the Argonauts. There are various articles on Jasons, both old and new, as well as some genuinely interesting items on Jason-related themes.
The blog posts themselves are admittedly quite funny and therefore well worth a look. As PR tricks go, this one gets a 9/10.
But where do we go next?
- Win a Killzone 2 Media Kit if you get glowing red implants in your eyes?
- Win a Final Fantasy weapon if you understand the Square Enix releases for 2009 (across all platforms, natch)?
What’s the most bizarre (but kind of funky) PR stunt you have ever heard of?
