Killzone 2; Guerrilla thwart rank-up abusers

download unlockablepsml Killzone 2; Guerrilla thwart rank up abusersGuerrilla have already spotted that a number of players have been setting up games where real players take on an army of low-end bots in order to increase their experience points artificially.

In response to this tactic, they released the following statement:

“We’re disabling the ability to add bots to online games as a temporary measure against rank-up abuse. A permanent solution is forthcoming.”

We welcome anything that stops people from being able to artificially unlock as many abilities as possible in a short space of time. Remember people, winnings are much better when you’ve earnt them…

I agree with dolph,I think it's a very good idea to put them in unranked games.

Perhaps if people weren't allowed to choose the difficulty of each individual bot, it might stop anyone from padding their stats as they wouldn't know what they would be up against, and each bot would behave differently.

I think it would be a shame to lose the bots online, and it would be frustrating not to get anything on your stats for killing them, but hopefully Guerrilla will figure something out.

I've not yet tried online as I'm only 1/3 through the singleplayer, (catching up with heroes), but I look forward to getting stuck in.

Yep - GG are looking into it ... expect a "patch" to reinclude bots later but with different parameters so cheating is no longer possible.

Personally, I think the answer is to allow bots on unranked games only.

Then, you can use them online with your clan or PSN friends to figure out strategies, but not benefit from them being too easy to beat.

What do you think? Am I mad?

Not at all - I've seen you play, you're quite good ;).

I agree entirely - bots in ranked games are actually pretty boring (at least, when they're being used to spam points - when they're set competitively it's a whole 'nuther matter) - I'd much rather have fun and get less ranking points than spend a couple of hours grinding against bots (although even the lowlier bots are still uncannily good with grenades - I _did_ learn a few things there. In fact (and this may just be a reflection of me not being so good), I got about as many points in the couple of 'bot rank-up games' I played (mates asked me to join them, and I didn't want to be rude) as I normally do playing against humans, and far fewer deaths by grenade!

So yeah, by making the bot games unranked would mean you could still have clan games, or pseudo online co-op (humans vs bots), without spamming the stats. Particularly in KZ2 - it's not exactly hard to get to General - about half the time it takes to get to Lieutenant in Resistance 2!

Warhawk, is that still going!?
I thought Resistance, KZ2 and maybe even MGS4 online would have left the place pretty empty. After all we only have so much time in our lives.

How do they always manage to cheat?!?:p

Might they be useful for training simulation with no XP gained for playing? Similar to Warhawk?

Thank god for that, and I thought it was just me being rubbish. That's what you get for playing the game straight

I will admit I played in a couple of these games, as a couple of my mates were in them (but not long enough to mess with my stats particularly) - but I don't like the idea in general, particularly as it messes with the overall stats (ie - I don't really care about the whole ranking up thing, but it artificially inflates their score, which can mess with online rankings). I do think it'd be a shame of bots were permanently outlawed in online matches, as I (was, before this) keen to have a clan-only match against bots - that way we can practice tactics et al all on the same side without having to put a bunch of randoms through a painful experience. Touch wood guerilla will be able to patch it to allow bot games but no ranking points from shooting bots, or something similar.

Good Point about clan only matches against bots - good for basic training and reccys

There goes that idea ...

;)
