New images of Zipper Interactive’s massive multiplayer online frag-fest MAG have appeared today showing off the sheer scale of what 256 players running around one environment while trying to kill one another will look like.

On display are some character models, screen grabs of the game in action and even some environment maps depicting the type of locations you and 255 other gun-happy people will be inhabiting this fall.

MAG appeared in the news this week with Sony claiming, yet again, that the game was only possible on the PS3. Along with this assertion was the quote “MAG is an iteration of SOCOM” which caused no end of confusion. As stated in our early article, MAG is a standalone new IP from the creators of SOCOM. This is the only connection to that property and, if our playthrough of SOCOM: Confrontation is anything to go by (expect a full review soon), Zipper keeping their distance from the SOCOM name should be seen as something of a wise move.
