Sony captures hardcore, moves on to casual market

casual-gamers1Sony plans to shift their focus on the casual market according to SCEA hardware marketing boss John Koller.

Speaking to VG247, he highlighted that they believe they have “captured the hardcore” market for the PS3.

But don’t panic PS3 Attitude fans! They haven’t given up on the hardcore crowd just yet. Sony will continue to support it with their impressive games line-up of titles they have scheduled for release this year and beyond.

They include God of War III, Heavy Rain and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. See our Game Database for more info.

John Koller states:

The install base we have now tells us that the hardcore’s purchased. We’re moving on now to continue to support them with a tremendous line-up of games, but also look at softer brands that maybe we had with PS2 franchises we’re bringing over to PS3, or new IP.

Sony says that they have a collection of “strong family-friendly titles” on the timeline in their effort to appeal to casual gamers. And when asked for specifics on which PlayStation 2 franchises they have planned for the PS3, he teases by saying we should “think of some of the latter-half PS2 franchises.”

E3 will be a good time to reveal some of their future releases, and to see more of previously announced games like the impressive Eyepet.
