Killzone 2 Flash and Thunder; but is that a nuke?

Submitted by on Wednesday, 20 May 20099 Comments

kz2_flash_thunderKillzone 2 fans rejoice! A new map pack has been announced today, and something tells us this one is a little bit special.

Hinted at back when the Steel & Titanium pack was launched (when Herman Hulst, Guerilla Games’ Marketing Manager, told us the next DLC would be ‘retro’), the Flash & Thunder pack contains two maps taken from the original Killzone game on the PS2. But what’s this we see in the launch video? Is that a nuke? Heading our way on the 11th June, the Flash & Thunder pack contains the original Killzone’s Beach Head and Southern Hills maps.

These ‘retro’ maps have obviously been given a big spruce up for the PS3 and offer two different experiences for KZ2 devotees.

The Beach Head map is touted as being a ‘claustrophobic’ offering, whilst the Southern Hills map offers the chance to storm a hillside location. But we don’t think that is the most important thing about this pack.

When you watch Eurogamer.TV’s exclusive launch video, you can quite clearly see, approaching towards you and ever expanding, an explosion of epic proportions. Is this a new game mechanic? We remember stories before Killzone 2 launched of the story including a section where you had to ‘defuse nukes’.

Maybe now that element will become fact in this new DLC offering. No prices have been revealed as yet and we expect more details closer to launch.
