Scratch: The Ultimate DJ gets the ultimate controller

scratch-controllerThe battle of the turntables has officially begun. In one corner, we have Scratch: The Ultimate DJ. In the other, it’s DJ Hero. Who will reign victorious?

Numark Industries, in conjunction with Genius, Inc. have released the first images of the controller for Scratch: The Ultimate DJ under the title SCRATCH DECK. Why it’s in all caps? We’re not sure but it could have something to do with it being ultimate and all.

Numark is no newbie when it comes to the DJing business. They are one of the world’s leading manufacturers of DJ technology. The SCRATCH DECK combines a free-spinning, touch sensitive turntable with a crossfader and 5 Akai Pro MPC-style drum pads.

Players will be able to manipulate songs in real time using the turntable and insert samples to customize their beats with the drum pads. This can be done with either the 60 preloaded samples included with the game or by uploading your own creations with a USB microphone.

The controller itself is perfect for both right and left handed players so there is no need for different sets. The turntable is also built to feel like a vinyl record for that true DJ experience.

It looks like DJ Hero will have some competition after all. The SCRATCH DECK will be making its debut appearance at E3. Who knows, maybe we’ll be able to get some hands on time with it. If not, we’ll just have to wait till its release in the Fall.
