E3 09; New Avatar screens and information

samson attack E3 09; New Avatar screens and information“King of the World” and “Keeper of Arcane Secrets” James Cameron is hard at work bringing his latest sci-fi vision to the big screen with the monumental (and super-expensive) alien themed Avatar.

A visual feast for the eyes, the film promises to confirm what we already kind of knew: when it comes to big budget groundbreaking cinematic experiences – no one does it quite like James.

Ubisoft have been hard at work on a game companion (read: shameless tie-in) for the movie with what we’ve heard described as an MMO. We’ve only seen concept art up until now but, lucky us, we’re finally getting a glimpse of what the game, and by association the movie, will look like.

The screens below depict the lush vegetative environment of the planet Pandora inhabited by the alien race known as the Na’vi. Staying spoiler free, we can divulge a little of the plot by quoting the press release which provides just enough ambiguity:

“When conflict erupts between the RDA Corporation, a space-faring consortium in search of valuable resources, and the Na’vi, gamers will find themselves thrust into a fight for the heart of a planet and the fate of a civilization.”

We also think it’s fairly safe to mention that the filenames on the screenshots received are “Ampsuit March”, “Sturmbeast Charge” and “Samson Attack”. Try and figure out which is which. There is no prize.

Other features mentioned include more than sixty RDA and Na’vi weapons to customise and combine along with an abundance of skills available for each clan. You’ll also be able to drive all vehicles (and animals) presented in the game.

Avatar will launch this winter for every console known to man.
