E3 09; Crysis 2 to be multiplatform
Breaking news over at CVG with reports that EA have struck a deal with Crytek to publish the sequel to darling of the PC world, Crysis.
We’ve known for some time now that Crytek have been seriously looking into the console market and, considering the first Crysis was one of the most pirated games of all time and the recent emergence of CryEngine 3 console demos, it’s no shock to see the follow-up to what many still consider the best looking game ever coming to consoles.
Crytek’s Cevat Yerli states:
“The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio. This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it’s the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryEngine 3. We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event.”
Are we finally seeing a challenger to the graphical might of Killzone 2 on consoles? There’s no doubt that the boys from Crytek know their engines, but only time will tell if Crysis 2 can deliver in other departments like game-play and story. Two areas even ardent fans of the first game admit were lacking.
