IL-2 Sturmovik Trailer

Submitted by on Thursday, 18 June 2009One Comment

IL-2IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey is the next in the series from 1C, developers of the previously PC-only series of aerial combat simulators.

With some serious gaming pedigree behind the game’s latest iteration, there are high hopes among the team for the title.

Thankfully, we don’t have long to wait and we have been lucky enough to score the latest trailer. For those not in the know, the IL-2 Sturmovik aircraft were ground attack craft made in the Soviet Union during World War II. They were as important to the Red Army as air and bread, according to a message sent by Stalin himself when one production factory fell behind.

The game will feature five theatres of war including Stalingrad and Berlin and will not be confined to the air in terms of the story. As the air battles play out, similar confrontations will be ongoing far below. We don’t know whether your actions will have an impact on how the ground troops will fare directly, but there is a huge scope for an immersive and engaging experience.

And that’s just the single player! For anyone who’s not in the know, the main draw of the PC incarnations of the game is the massive online battles. We are going to be able to customize our planes with colours and equipment to suit before being blown out of the sky (with realistic damage, people!).

Thoughts in the comments – once you’ve watched the trailer, that is. We should see the Sturmovik heading to these shores later this year and we honestly cannot wait.
