DJ Jazzy Jeff confirmed for DJ Hero; the Fresh Prince strangely absent

Submitted by on Monday, 27 July 2009One Comment

DJ HeroAnnounced to the world today, actor, R&B record producer, world famous “turntablist”, personal friend to Will Smith and Grammy Award winning hip-hop super-star DJ Jazzy Jeff will feature as a playable character in the upcoming licence-to-print-money Activision game DJ Hero.

Jeff (can we call you Jeff?) will be appearing along side such luminary stars of the hip-hop world that includes DJ Shadow, DJ Z-Trip, Grandmaster Flash, DJ AM and a host of other world famous disc spinners we have never heard of.

Not content to just lend his likeness and music to the game, Jazz Merchant Jeff will also “boom boom, shake the room” and get the party jumpin’ with his own set list featuring “two exclusive mixes hand created by the legend himself.”

In the grand tradition of a lot of hip-hop tracks, the new mixes are like Marvel Vs. Capcom and feature some awesome face-offs. First up we have Tears for Fears “Shout” vs. Eric B. & Rakim “Eric B. Is President” along with LL Cool J’s “Rock the Bells” vs. The Aranbee Pop Symphony Orchestra “Bittersweet Symphony.” That’s four songs mashed together like only a man with Jeff’s deft splicing skills can handle.

How is Jeff feeling about the prospect of making a lot of money? We mean, ahem, furthering the DJing genre? In his own words:

“I am very, very excited DJ culture is finally getting its due. To have a song in DJ Hero is a dream come true; to be a character someone can pick up the controller and select you and play is probably the biggest thing to happen to me in my career*. Music is so much a part of everyone’s life, DJ Hero is going to appeal to almost everybody.”

Developed by FreeStytleGames, expect DJ Hero (everywhere, you won’t be able to move without falling over a faux-turntable soon) later this year.

*We’re assuming he forgot the fact that he has actually won a Grammy. Or Will has it over at his house and won’t share it anymore.
