Double XP for Killzone 2 this weekend; Guerrilla to “step back” from KZ2
Welcome back. You're a regular here, so why not follow us on Twitter too...
From Friday at 17:30 GMT until Monday morning at 09:00, soldiers taking to the battlefield of Helghan will enjoy double XP for their hard work mowing down Helghast/ISA scum.
Speaking over at the official US blog, Guerrilla’s Sebastian Downie has some information of how the limited time points bonanza will work.
Seb lays out the details:
A Win will earn you a 2.5 multiplier and a Loss will still grant you the normal multiplier for a Win: 1.5. This applies only to individual points, not Clan Valor and will be available in all regions during this time. We hope all those coming new to Killzone 2 and the veterans alike will take part in this celebration and make sure to keep an eye out for people with [GG] in front of their handles. We’ll be rocking the new DLC this weekend too.
Despite this, we’re hearing some reports that people are not experiencing the points boon. If this is happening to you, let us know in the comments.
In other Killzone news, some comments emerged this week how Guerrilla Games will now be taking a step back from the popular FPS. Such a decision is somewhat understandable, especially considering the vast amount of work the studio has put in to the game. From the retail version to the numerous DLC packs and updates, not to mention the stellar job they did with www.killzone.com, the team has been kept busy on Helghan for a number of years.
Seb’s comments regarding how they plan to now “reflect on what’s out there” has led some to believe that the Dutch developer are gearing up for Killzone 3. With other musings coming out of the low country suggesting Guerrilla are far from finished with the PS3, a third (technically fourth if you include Liberation) chapter in the series would hardly come as a surprise and, if true, we can’t wait to see where Guerrilla take the franchise next.

I hope they are working on Killzone 3 if they are, they have the perfect engine to work off and the only thing that could do with a little work is the multi player.
If they do use the same engine i could take a guess and say that killzone 3 could be out by 2011 Christmas.
Crap when you’re on the losing team though
Assuming the multiplier is working, then no not really. You get the 1.5 multiplier you would normal get for a win.
I haven’t played as much KZ2 online as I had hoped (obviously considering I got owned so much) but what was with the endless Bodycount modes and getting stuck in that room as the Helghast?
Couldn’t get out!
ISA dogs were just throwing in grendades willy-nilly. I must have died once evey 10 seconds.
(Sorry team!)
Yeh I’ve seen that soo much recently its terrible… You will spawn and because they are practically in your base you die 30 secs later…
I was in a game like this over the weekend on the Tharsis Depot map. The ISA had us pinned down in our own base. You spawned but then could hardly set foot outside your base. Lesser people would have quit a game like this, but I persevered and did reasonably well for myself and the team. I switched to a Tactician and managed to make some reasonable breaks from the corner, and when I did I always laid down a spawn point. This resulted in 2nd place for me and a reasonable amount of points.
Re your Bodycount comment. This tends to come about, as once you have a certain badge you then get 3 points for every kill in Bodycount. A nice way to then rack up further points, if a little predictable.
I managed to play games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Its really odd, as in some games you get the multiplier and other you don’t. I could not really tell what the deciding factor was. Shame it was not applied to every game.
I had planned to get a few games in, but unfortunately nothing went according to my plans.
If your TEAM won you get the massive 2.5 multiplyer if you yourself do well you get nothing its all about the team… which is why i hate seeing my team get spawn killed…
I’m sure you have this wrong. I was in one or two games on the losing side and I got the 1.5 multiplier.
Its to late now.
