Midway’s Ed Boon has revealed through his Twitter account that upcoming plans for Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe DLC have been shelved.

A popular way for companies to wrangle some extra coin out of existing properties, it comes as a little surprise that characters suspiciously missing from the launched game – and “just about done” according to the co-creator – will now not be made available by the cash-strapped studio.

As a teaser of what we’ll never get, a render of how Quan Chi would have appeared was also shown.

With Warner Bros. and Midway now focusing on the 9th edition of an M-rated Mortal Kombat, we’re thinking it makes more sense to look to the future rather than release more characters for a 2008 game.
