Develop09; SingStar gaining ‘clubs’ feature

Submitted by on Wednesday, 15 July 20092 Comments

singstarmicsSpeaking at the Develop Conference today, Dave Ranyard of SCEE has been outlining what the SingStar community has taught Sony through interaction with the game, and what developments we can expect in the future.

One of the big issues for Sony is balancing the features the existing users require – small, monthly updates – versus the big new additions that would bring new users to the SingStar franchise.

So here’s what they’ve come up with.

By analysing the data generated by the users themselves, Sony have realised that many users watch a video of someone’s rendition of a particular song, and then go to purchase that track for themselves.

However, the route to buying this track is a little convoluted at present, so there are moves to make purchasing a track easier and direct from the video you are watching at that time.

But the big new feature announced at the event is the addition of SingStar Clubs – a new way to group the community together via common interests and artists.

Although no dates were given, you can expect SingStar’s new club feature to appear in the not-too-distant future.
