Japan gearing up for PS3 Slim? 7-11 claim 80GB PS3 to be discontinued
Hatimaki blog have got their hands on a compelling notice from a 7-11 convenience store in Japan indicating that pre-orders for the 80GB version of the PS3 will no longer be accepted from this Sunday.
Can we really trust a supermarket though? Well, found at nearly every corner of Nippon, the Japanese flavour of 7-11 doesn’t just sell groceries and confectionery but also extends their range to electronics and, well, material of a more adult nature. Seriously, you wouldn’t believe what we found next to the Pringles in Koiwa.
We know you love it when we translate Japanese for you (no! please! make him stop!) so here’s a gist of what it actually says above.
Gaming Hardware – Pre-orders to cease notification.
Puleisuteshun 3 – 80 GB Burakku (PlayStation 3 Black)
Puleisuteshun 3 – 80 GB Howaito (PlayStation 3 White)
Puleisuteshun 3 – 80 GB Shiruba (PlayStation 3 Silver)
Cessation date: August 9th / 10a.m.
Reason: Manufacturer’s convenience.
In addition: Please withdraw from shelves all dummy packages (box displays).
With the 20GB, 40GB and 60GB SKUs having already gone the way of the dodo in the east, a cessation of the 80GB model would leave only the 120GB juggernaut available to our Japanese gaming cousins. Unless a new SKU was on its way of course …
We’re not saying this is confirmation of the PS3 Slim but feel free to allow such speculative ideas swirl around your own mind unhindered and without contention from us. We just report it as we see it.
