Assassin’s Creed 2 for under £30; have The Hut gone mad?

Submitted by on Wednesday, 5 August 20094 Comments

Assassin's Creed 2The Hut are a UK-based online retailer who have been making waves in the industry. Listed in last year’s Sunday Times Microsoft Tech Track 100 annual league table, they’re a company on the move.

But we think they may have gone slightly mad of late.

Yesterday they offered Batman: Arkham Asylum for pre-order at a ridiculous knock-down price, and today they’ve followed suit with Assassin’s Creed 2.

Yes, you can go to The Hut right now and pre-order AC2 for only £29.73 / €35.93.

With a retail price of nearly twice that, this represents the kind of price point you would expect from a Platinum release, not a full fledged AAA sequel that hasn’t even graced our Blu-ray drive yet.

It seems clear that The Hut have negotiated a pre-order allocation from the publisher, since they managed to sell out of their Batman: Arkham Asylum copies yesterday. You can’t sell out of a pre-order title unless you already know what stock you’ve been allocated, can you?

Whether this is a deliberate spoliing tactic, designed to move The Hut up a league so they’re competing directly with GAME and, we don’t know. But whatever it is, you’d be well advised to take advantage whilst you can.
