GC09; CCP announce DUST 514 for consoles – UPDATED
Way back in November 2008 you might recall we ran a story about Icelandic developer CCP and their intentions towards the console market.
In fact, you may also remember such terms like “FPS” and “spin-off” bantered around in relation to their über-successful EVE Online MMO.
Showcased today at Gamescom, CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Petrusson proudly announced DUST 514, a game best described as an FPS MMO with some RTS elements.
The new title will also be connected to the larger EVE Online universe, offering users who may have yet to experience the space opera an insight into just what they’ve been missing.
DUST 514’s core gameplay surrounds “brutal ground combat”, taking place on the planets featured in EVE. The press release goes on to state how the game will feature: “strategic planning, giving commanders and ground infantry real-time configurable weapons and modular vehicles to manage dynamic battlefield conditions.”
Now in its third year of development, DUST 514 is being developed out of CCP’s Shanghai office and will be revealed further at CCP’s annual fanfest in Reykjavik between the 1st and 3rd of October.
We should also mention that DUST 514 is, so far, only nebulously confirmed for “consoles” and not specifically the PS3. We’ll keep an eye out for the official confirmation and let you know as soon as it arrives.
UPDATE: You can now check out some really cool footage of DUST 514 here. Watch out Killzone 2.
