So without further ado, here is our full and complete show preview, helping you get the best from the event.

Edinburgh Interactive 2009 will pack in exclusive hands-on previews of the year’s biggest titles as well as speakers from the key sectors of the videogames industry; all in one fantastic venue.

The videogames market has more than doubled over the last five years. Last year, hardware and software sales combined totalled over £4 billion.

EI 2009 is all set to revel in those achievements, with the biggest industry names gathering to offer their thoughts on the past, present and future of videogaming. Alongside exclusive first looks at the likes of Batman: Arkham Asylum and FIFA 10 this year’s EI 2009 is simply unmissable.

Edinburgh Interactive Overview

Edinburgh Interactive is an annual festival celebrating the creative culture of interactive entertainment. Spanning across a broad range of industries including videogames, social networking, mobile entertainment, education, film, music and television, Edinburgh Interactive attracts people from all walks of life such as conference delegates and industry luminaries from around the world, families, gaming fans, academics and students as well as national press.

The conference element to Edinburgh Interactive is electric with creative energy as the festival enhances networking opportunities and brings attendees back year after year.

The Free Play Public Area is for everyone and anyone who has a passion for videogames and fancies coming along to play some of the biggest games of the year for free before they even hit the shelves!

Edinburgh Interactive Conference

The Edinburgh Interactive Conference provides the perfect backdrop for games companies to express themselves, particularly in terms of demonstrating innovation. Delivering a lively schedule and covering a diverse range of subjects, the Edinburgh Interactive Conference is an event for delegates to enjoy, learn and seek inspiration and new thinking from interactive entertainment.

Keynotes, panel sessions and presentations makeup the key components of the festival conference. Peter Moore (EA Sports), Peter Cowley (Endemol), Ray Maguire (Sony), Kristian Segerstrale (Playfish) and Sean Dromgoole (Some Research) are just a few of the guest speakers this year.

Conference delegates will be able to relax and network in an intimate environment during the conference and at the various Festival Networking events.

The conference element to the festival largely attracts around 300 delegates spanning all types of media including videogames publishers and developers, tools providers, interactive entertainment companies, marketing and media companies, industry stakeholders, venture capitalists, academics and students, government agencies and press.

Edinburgh Interactive is not a trade show or a business meeting, but a collaboration among people who really enjoy what they do. Competing with each other for most of the year, delegates can unwind and network in a relaxed setting.

You’ll remember we covered the full conference schedule already, so check there for details of who is speaking and when.

Free Play Public Area

The Game Play Area and Games Screenings Sessions are an integral part of Edinburgh Interactive, and members of the public can enjoy two full days of videogame play – for free. A number of exciting new games will be showcased before they even hit the shelves!

Some of the games to be featured this year include:

Batman: Arkham Asylum

For the first time in Scotland, Batman: Arkham Asylum will be ‘hands-on’ to members of the public, as it is featured in the free-to-play area of Edinburgh Interactive this year. To celebrate its forthcoming release, the public are also invited to attend in the guise of their favourite Batman character. So whether you’re a bit of a Joker or a Caped Crusader – you’ll be in with a chance of winning some very heroic prizes.

Mini Ninjas

Prepare yourself for a Ninja adventure like you have never seen before! Join Hiro, the smallest hero on the biggest adventure, as he embarks on an epic and electrifying quest to restore harmony to a world on the brink of chaos. Use your skills and mighty Ninja training to battle a magical army of evil Samurai. Harness the power of your Kuji magic and utilise the special skills of your Mini Ninja friends as you travel through a perilous world to reach the final confrontation with the Evil Samurai Warlord in his Fortress of Doom.

Screenings Programme

The Games Screening Sessions supported by Gamestation, will run alongside the Game Play Area, offering previews of this year’s biggest titles. You can even meet the developers and get the lowdown on the technology and inspiration behind the games you’ll be playing. With the presence of some of Scotland’s best games developers, such as Realtime Worlds and Dynamo Games, to name a few, anyone wishing to break into the gaming industry should remember to bring a CV, as these companies are always scouting for new talent. There will also be competitions and the chance for the public to make their own video game.

Gamestation will be on site at the festival this year to take pre-orders of any of the featured games. Gamestation will also be running a number of competitions and giveaways.

Away from videogames, festival-goers can expect to see bands, DJs and movies – completing the interactive extravaganza that is the free consumer area this year!

Entry to Edinburgh Interactive is free. However, anyone wishing to come will need to obtain their free ticket from any Scottish Gamestation store. If you don’t have time to visit the store directly, you can also download your free ticket online.
