GC09; Firmware 3.0 – New Look And Functionality Coming Soon
We are nearing the release of the long awaited and somewhat fabled Firmware 3.0 for the PlayStation 3. How do we know we’re close to see it? Not only it was just announced at GamesCom, but the US PlayStation.Blog released a video update on how the new firmware is coming along with a slightly new look.
XMB, Friends List and Trophies redesigned, a ‘What’s New’ section added, dynamic themes premiere, new avatars (finally), a status indicator with all the PS3 information you need to see at a glance replaces the ‘info board’ and finally, the most important redesign in firmware history: the battery indicator will no longer block the clock. That’s great news, no one likes a clock-blocker.
One of the most impressive additions (besides the anti clock-blocking technology) has to be dynamic themes. Featured in the video below is a demo of a LittleBigPlanet dynamic theme which shows off many things going on in the screen at once, and we are sure this is just the tip of the iceberg.
With this and the other great announcements from GamesCom today, we are proud to say the PlayStation brand is looking stronger. Watch the video to see firmware 3.0 in action and join us while we eagerly await for our PS3s to let us know that 3.0 has arrived. Did Sony hit it out of the park or are there any key features still missing in your honest opinion?
