Details on a video store for Europe to be announced at GamesCom

Submitted by on Tuesday, 11 August 2009One Comment

videostoreBack at E3 in 2008, on the exact same day as their conference, Sony officially announced and launched a video store for the United States.

But straight away as expected, people from other regions around the world were asking when they would see their own store to download television shows and movies, including some of the latest blockbusters straight on their PS3s.

Well that question may soon be answered – hopefully. On the European PlayStation Blog, Angela Madronero who is the PlayStation Store manager for all regions covered by SCEE including Europe and Australia, answered a few questions that readers had been asking in a new article.

Of course there are the usual questions that we have all heard before but then there was a question on if and when a video download service will land outside of the United States, and most recently Japan. Little was said at this point other than explaining it’s in their long-term strategy and when they have further details for us, we will be informed – you know the usual.

However, in the comments section Angela was pushed again for more information but this time she decided it was the right time to come out with the news that an official announcement will be made at GamesCom next week.

Although we are not too surprised by this revelation, we are both relieved and delighted that finally more details on the service will get released.

So will Sony do another surprise launch on Tuesday at the conference? Well, that would be great but don’t hold your breath too much and just be happy that the long wait for new information is nearly over.

But is a video store one of your most wanted, or most loved features? As ever please leave your views in the comments section below.
