3D mode coming to a PS3 near you in 2010
While we were aware that 3D is the next step for gaming, we had no idea that all past, present, and future games can support the “realistic” effect. According to engadget, the PS3 is perfectly capable at outputing 3D signals to TVs and that a future firmware update in 2010 could bring the mode to all existing games…
This new technology will require a 3D-ready TV and glasses of course. The system will simply output its signal via HDMI to the TV, specifically a 200Hz one that alternates 1080p frames and 100Hz for each eye, thus allowing you to experience any game in 3D.
Everything is still in the early phases of testing so don’t get your hopes up too high yet. There’s a video showing off Wipeout HD in 3D but we think it’s a feature that you need to experience first hand. Somehow the small glasses in front of the camera just doesn’t do it for us, especially when we can only see out of one lense.
