All Gran Turismo 5 cars can take damage

After previously being told that only “racing cars” would support the new damage feature in Gran Turismo 5, it now appears that this is not strictly true.
IGN spoke to a Sony representative at the Tokyo Game Show and he confirmed that all cars will support deformation, such as scratches, and mechanical damage, that will affect the performance of the car in a big way.
However, racing cars will suffer from damage in a lot bigger way where crashing can cause multiple panelsĀ and doors to fall off.
This small limitation on production cars is due to car manufacturers wanting their vehicles to appear like solid tanks that can withstand a lot of bad driving.
Still, we are very happy with this news, but we know that many people will never be satisfied until full damage can be sustained by any car.

As much as I like the realism that is full damage, I love having shiny cars to look at when I screw up all the time.
That’s true. On games like grid, the damage looks great, but it’s a pain when you’re doing really well and a small incident makes your car undrivable. That being said though, trust big business to ruin polyphonys plans…
Maybe one day they will all have proper damage for all cars. At least we have taken the leap from no damage at all.
