The Homerun – 24th September 09; SingStar rooms are here

Submitted by on Thursday, 24 September 2009No Comment

New_HomerunSix months ago we started a new regular article called The Homerun that provided news and views on what’s new with PlayStation Home.

Now in September, the Homerun is still going strong and we have seen Home grow at a rapid rate to what it is today.

This week we have more news on content that has arrived that makes PlayStation Home even more compelling.

The first new addition has to be one of the biggest since we started doing these articles, and that is the SingStar rooms.

You have probably heard these before but if you need a quick recap, the SingStar rooms offer music content to Home with a jukebox and interactive dance floor.

Right now there are six songs to choose from including for Europe the Killer’s Human and Britney Spears’ Hit Me Baby One More Time. Although the selection is small, it should grow in the future.

One thing that was immediately clear when we visited was that the songs playing don’t last nearly long enough as they constantly change to the next song with the most votes. So we would like to see Sony do something about this one day, but apart from that we like it very much.

The interactive dance floor plays music that reacts to the style of dancing that the majority of avatars are doing – it sounds good and actually in reality it works well too.

For the next 48 hours you can also visit the Dizzee Rascal VIP lounge that is based on top of a city’s skyscraper. Dizzee is a UK rapper and has got involved with the Home team to promote his new album; Tongue n’ Cheek.

Welcome to the party! Martini?

Welcome to the party! Martini?

The space is very well designed because it looks very real and there are also access points available to purchase merchandise.

We are happy to say that all of this is available to users in North America and Europe, so check it out while it lasts.

But if you do live in Europe, you will be treated to an exclusive launch party for the new album and you can watch six of his hit singles performed from 20:00 BST and 21:00 CEST. Additionally, you can see an interview with him and meet his avatar – we suspect it won’t actually be the rapper on the controls though.

But North American users shouldn’t feel too left out as the last piece of new content is exclusively for you.

The Far Cry 2 space is being updated with a new mini-game entitled “Reuben’s Report”. This should make the space more interesting than it has been in the past.

If you’re wondering where the 1.3 update is, all we can say is that we have no news to share with you this time, but it shouldn’t be too long before it does arrive.

Well, this Homerun is a bit short and sweet, but it doesn’t mean that the content is. Finishing off, we will say that we really recommend taking a look at the SingStar rooms because they are quite cool and have a lot of potential.

Keep your fingers-crossed for the patch to arrive next week!
