PSP Minis could come to PS3
One of the announcements we pretty much brushed aside from GamesCom this year was PSP Minis – Sony’s answer to Apple’s App Store and its plethora of instantly downloadable bite-sized games.
Well, along with the new PSP comic reader functionality – not that we think that’s not pretty cool either.
The main reason we didn’t give Minis much coverage was due to the feature’s strong connection to the PSP and not quite being PS3 related.
Now that SCEE’s Zeno Colaco is talking about the possibility of the micro games making the logical jump to the PS3, we’re a lot more comfortable discussing the upcoming service.
Speaking to Develop, Zeno actually focuses more on the likelihood of some of the popular sub-100MB games popping up on a UMD collection for those of us who prefer physical media. Or may simply not have the luxury of being connected to the PlayStation Network and/or an unfavourable download service.
But it’s his latter comment (reproduced here) in the interview that suddenly makes PSP Minis applicable to PS3 Attitude.
“These games won’t need to necessarily be built for the home console, and I think these games will find their true life and identity in those micro-bursts of play. But I do think there’s a possibility that Minis could find themselves on other consoles down the line.”
There’s no doubt that casual games are on the up. However, are players really interested in micro gaming experiences on a power-horse such as the PS3?
We suppose it depends on the game in question.
