Insomniac confesses to some fans’ disappointment with Resistance 2

resistance2 Insomniac confesses to some fans disappointment with Resistance 2We are big fans of Resistance 2, and believe it is a step in the right direction for the franchise.

But some hardcore fans of the first game were left angry and disappointed with the sequel that brought a lot of change.

For the first time, Insomniac has confessed to this bitter reality and related the situation to a dog turning on to its owner:

Resistance 2 got better reviews than Resistance 1. But the long term fan feedback from that game weighed on me. The hardcore fans of Resistance 1 were maybe a little bit disappointed. Those folks consistently expressing that – especially GAF – it was like your dog turned on you.

Some of the characteristics with Resistance 2 that many fans were left angry with was the lack of the female narrator in the first game, a weapon wheel, and the 1950s England feel.

It will be tough for Insomniac to decide how to approach the next game and make sure it is not just another first person shooter.

We would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions in the comments below!

I’m a HUGE Resistance fan, and I will admit to being a bit disappointed with this game. Definitely did not play it as much as I did the first. In this one, I got 12,000 kills. In the first, I got 38,000 kills.

i liked resitance 1 and 2, but its just not my type of FPS. the single player its too much “one man army” type. But yes, resistance 1 had more feel than resistance 2. somehwere alng the way they lost that something that made resistance feel like resistance and become an average shooter.

Apology accepted. Talk to the guys at BEND, because I felt they were able to capture some of the essence of RFOM in that tiny hamdheld Res. Retribution. Insomniac will probably never make a bad game fame, but I am surprised at how quickly I changed allegience after one game. I think Insomniac needs to go back to their old RFOM forums, where people said exactly what they liked and didnt like,(HINT) when possible, dispite what I think was OVERMODERATION. If they are still at a loss, Ill be happy to tell them what I analysed out of it all.

I liked it in a different way.
The first one was very gritty, I loved the swarms of chimera in Manchester and frantic firefights. it was a real onslaught. and up to 4 player split screen almost wore out the controllers.

By comparison R2 was tame and a lot easier to run through. Having said that the class / co-op mode was a real bonus and I still play it – as I see a lot of my PSN friends do too.

So I have mixed feelings about it.

Oh, I talked to James Stevenson at PAX (Very cool, friendly guy). He told me that the thing most people were extremely disappointed in was the two gun thing. Saying that it was one of the things he got the most flak about.

  • jockhotty says:

Since James Stevensons name was brought up, I remember over and over people were complaining that there should be more “vehicle” use in the game and people were begging for it in multiplayer. Yet in R2 they practically rubbed it in the playes face as your AI buddy gets to operate a “way cool” drone and you never do anything even close to that in the entire campaign. What gives with that?

  • Appo says:

I’m sure they thought about that and I’m sure if they could’ve done it in a good way, they would have. Insomniac is one of those companies that really cares about their community, and they do listen to their fans. I’m sure that wasn’t a response you were looking for, but me not being James Stevenson makes it difficult to come up with a good answer. :P

BTW, I got my PSP signed by James Stevenson. :D
