Oddworld’s Abe coming to a PSN near you…maybe

Welcome back. You're a regular here, so why not follow us on Twitter too...

abe wanted...on the PSNHello.

Our favorite Mudokon from the original PlayStation is making a comeback.

Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and Abe’s Exoddus have been confirmed to be re-releasing as PSone Classics.

Lorne Lanning, co-founder of Oddworld Inhabitants was recently interviewed  by bitmob. Throughout the interview, questions regarding Abe’s success, Lanning’s favorite character from the series, and motion control were asked.

Lanning was also asked if the two original Oddworld games would be making an appearance on the PSN. Here is what Lanning had to say:

Funny you should ask, because they are already on their way. We just signed the contract this week and the original Abe games will officially be coming to PSN very soon.

So there you have it. The only lack of confirmation we have is the region the game will be released in. If you go to the ESRB website, both Oddworld games have been listed there for quite some time. No word on a European release date, sadly.

Abe looking as seductive as ever...

For those that are unaware, the Oddworld titles were amazing games. The first game features the Mudokon Abe, who works at a place called Rupture Farms. On one unfortunate day, Abe learns that the tasty treats that he loves were going to be made using the Mudokons that work there.

Throughout the game there are 99 Mudokons to rescue. Utilizing special powers, and the ability to talk, you have to guide your fellow comrades to safety. There are numerous enemies throughout the adventure, and sometimes there are traps that will purposefully kill off your Mudokon friends if you aren’t careful. There is also an ability to control the minds of your enemies!

This can't end well...

In Abe’s Exoddus, you once again take the role of Abe. The story this time is that there is an addictive brew being made. The problem with the brew was that it made the Mudokons act loony. That and the fact that the SoulStorm Brew was made with the tears and bones of Mudokons. How gruesome!

In Exoddus there are 300 Mudokons to rescue this time around and the gameplay remains generally the same, but with more. There really isn’t much to ask for beyond that, and fun gameplay. Oh, and Abe has explosive farts at his disposal. He’s ever so charming.

Oddworld Abe’s Oddysee and Abe’s Exoddus will be hitting the PSN soon. No pricing has been confirmed as of yet, but expect it to be either $5.99 or $9.99 in the US. Hopefully the game is released in Europe, but there is no word on that just yet.

Goodbye.

    WTF @ Hello

Can’t wait for this game to re come out. >.>

I figured someone would ask about the seemingly random “Hello” and “Goodbye” in this article. It’s just a reference to Abe speak. When you first start the game, he pops out and welcomes you.

      ;)

Oh, silly me. I’m so stupid. Thank you for explaining it.

Ah Abe. I remember the hours we spent just searching for the 99th Mudokon, and how elated we were when we found him/her (have you ever seen a female Mudokon?). Oh how we laughed when we blew the Glukkons to smithereens. Happy times.

Can’t remember how many of the 300 we saved after that, but who cares anyway. It was a burn when Oddworld said goodbye to the Playstation and never looked back, but I’ve put it behind me now and I still have both original games. They were never bested anyhow.

Think I’ll pass on these. I loved them on PS1, but this is the guy who went all ‘Gabe Newell’ and slammed the PS2 as being ‘too hard to develop for’. He didn’t support the platform that made his franchise, so I’d rather not support him with more money.
