Uncharted 2 DLC out before year end, game exceeded expectations

Submitted by on Tuesday, 27 October 20093 Comments

Uncharted 2 is without question our favourite game of the year, and even for the whole PS3 lifetime, so far.

It’s so good that it has surpassed the expectations held by developers Naughty Dog.

They have been speaking to IndustryGamers about their thoughts on the game’s reception:

I would definitely say it’s exceeding expectations…From the early numbers I’ve seen getting reported back it’s exceeded any estimates we had internally, and it’s certainly outsold the first game by many, many times. That and the critical reception so far has been really gratifying.

Naughty Dog credit the PS3 price cut and the slipping of other titles into next year for part of the game’s success:

I think it was more a gradual realization that the stars were going to align – the new hardware and the price cut and the fact that some other titles were slipping into next year and that our game was just coming together so well. So it was great timing, and from the initial numbers we’ve seen it does seem to be turning into a system seller, which is great. We’re just blown away…

So that is all very good for them, but how about for us, the gamers? Well the developers are already working on what’s next:

What we’re prepared to say is that there will be DLC available before the end of the year. Without going into specifics, it’ll involve new maps, new characters, things like that. Some of it will be free of charge and some of it will be purchasable.

We like the sound of free stuff! It certainly sounds like for now the additional content will be multiplayer related, rather than additions to the already amazing single player mode – don’t fix something that isn’t broken right?
