opn taiken master2631 Final Fantasy XIII gets global release dateSquare Enix have announced today, via a special video trailer on the official website, that Final Fantasy XIII will be released in Europe (plus other PAL territories) and North America on 9th March 2010.

In addition to the launch date, the game’s theme song is to be provided by X-Factor winner Leona Lewis.

The latest in the Final Fantasy franchise is coming to both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on the same day, a decision that has caused much conversation amongst FF fans and owners of both consoles.

“We know that our fans have been eagerly awaiting the next installation of the franchise – Final Fantasy XIII will exceed all expectations. Coming simultaneously to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for the first time, Final Fantasy XIII will be available to all players who are looking for the most immersive gaming experience of 2010.” – John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix, Inc.

The inclusion of a song from Leona Lewis’ latest album certainly came from left-of-field for us at Attitude Towers. Square Enix and RCA are quick to explain why they approached the former X-Factor winner:

“Leona is a natural fit with the game’s powerful themes and strong female protagonist. We’re delighted to be part of this effort, bringing great musical artistry to Final Fantasy XIII which is a riveting and dynamic gaming experience.” – Tom Corson, EVP/GM, RCA Music Group.

So, set your countdown timers for March 9th 2010 – FFXIII promises to be a title worth waiting for.
