Firmware 3.10 preview; Facebook, photos, and friends

It was confirmed a while ago that Facebook would indeed be making its way into the XMB via the next firmware update and now we have the video to prove it.
The preview given by the folks over on the PlayStation.Blog showcases some of the things you can do with Facebook from your PS3 as well as some tweaks to your photo album and more importantly, your friends list.
You will be able to post updates on Trophies you acquire and game purchases you make via the PSN Store. In addition, there will be future support for game specific achievements that are up to the discretion of the developers, much like how Naughty Dog implemented Twitter capabilities for Uncharted 2.
Aside from adding Facebook, Firmware 3.10 will have an improved photo albums that arranges all your photos in a grid-like pattern rather than the current column of pictures. From the looks of it, it’s much cleaner and sharper, especially for those of you who have a ton of pictures.
Lastly, one major complaint from everyone was the layout of the friends list and how it was a step backward in Firmware 3.0. Hopefully that will be a thing of the past as the new design features box outlines for only the highlighted friend as well as color preference. Hooray!
The friendslist box itself looks like it’s transparent a bit. That’s also a welcome addition if true (my eyes could be deceiving me). I’m very glad that they cleaned up the friendslist. It looks soooo much better.
Ha! Looks like I will NEVER get to see how bad the friends list was by the time I’m back home and log back in.

Edit: After watching the video in HD, I can confirm the boxes are slightly transparent (hoorah!)
I never really had an issue with the boxes around the friends list, but I welcome the change.
As for Facebook, I use it but don’t really care if it’s on my game console or not. Nice to have the option I suppose.
Someone is going to mention it, I might as well… Weren’t ‘X game chat’ confirmed for this update??
Nope the only things confirmed are in this news post.
Although the EU PS Blog team are saying that they will tell us about that feature when they can.
Deffo a step forward in design, and nice work with facebook – always good to see Sony keeping things moving forward, and it wouldn’t be the same if they didn’t keep teasing cross-game chat!
