Guerrilla Games will be celebrating with champagne and cake on the 26th because they will be celebrating the fifth birthday of Killzone.
Sure, the game was released on November 2nd in the US but the team is based in the Netherlands so they celebrate the European release. Time to bring out the candles!
In celebration, Guerrilla Games wants to invite fans to the party. Here are some of the activities they have planned:
Looking back at Killzone 1
Later this week on Killzone.com, Seb “Motherh” Downie and Eric Boltjes are going to play through the first Killzone game for you. They’ll be commenting on their favourite sections and wallowing in beer-induced nostalgia.
DLC download code giveaway
Haven’t checked out the Killzone 2 DLC map packs yet? You’re in luck, because Guerrilla is having a DLC download code giveaway. Keep a close eye on Killzone.com this week for full details!
Killzone 2 retro tournament
This weekend (November 27-30) Guerrilla will host a Killzone 2 retro tournament, using only the Beach Head and Southern Hills maps from the second DLC pack. And there’s more to be gained than valor alone, because…
Double XP Weekend returns
…the tournament will take place during a Double XP Weekend! Just like last time, any game created in the weekend of November 27-30 will yield extra XP to help you boost your ranking.
Killzone 1 and 2 side-by-side
Finally, Killzone.com editor Victor Zuylen will compare various features of Killzone 2 with its predecessor next week, illustrating exactly how far we’ve come since the first Killzone game was released.
Now that sounds like a fun party. Be sure to log on and join in on the festivities. In addition, Killzone 2 DLC is currently on sale on the US PlayStation Store. Flash & Thunder is $2.99 and the Map Pack Bundle is $9.99. The sale lasts until December 10th so download it while it lasts.

Woo! After playing MW2, UC2, SOCOM, OF:DR, UT3 and pretty much every console online shooter of any note, I’m firmly of the view that KZ2 is the best online team-based shooter released for console, ever. And by a fair margin too. It’s an acquired taste – think of it as the beer of the console world, if you don’t like beer, you don’t like it and you’re a frilly girls blouse, but it’s still great. Same goes for KZ2 – if you don’t like it, you don’t like it, and you’re a frilly girls blouse ;P.
Great to see it getting some lovin’ this weekend, might have to break it out and give it another run. Looking forward to KZ3 – if they’d have had more maps at launch, and perhaps a little more colour, I reckon KZ2 would have had longer legs with the shooter crowd.
PS3 Attitude still regularly play KZ2. It’s been a while since we’ve had a clan match but that’s more down to the number of other stellar titles releasing of late.
KZ2 is still one of my favourite online shooters.
Great to hear – as you say, the number of titles releasing means that everyone’s quite distracted at the moment. On the by, my comment above was in no way meant to suggest anyone on the PS3A team was a frilly girl’s blouse
.
Sounds good. May have to fire KZ2 back up if I get chance.
At the moment I am all about the new titles and the online shooter of choice is MW2, but to be honest I am playing it and thinking I am sure KZ2 did this better. A revisit may confirm that although I don’t have enough hours logged on MW2 to be sure yet.
Without a doubt clan support in KZ2 is far superior and the website integration with the game is excellent.
