Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition to be released as DLC

Submitted by on Monday, 9 November 2009No Comment

RE5_Alternative_EditionCapcom has just confirmed that RE5:AE will be released in North America, Europe, and Australia in the form of downloadable content.

Awhile back Capcom announced that they were going to let the fans decide how the Alternative Edition of Resident Evil 5 will be distributed outside of Japan. The votes have been tallied up, and it looks like the PSN is the way to get the new content.

Apparently 1,500 people voted for DLC, while only 900 voted for a disc only product, with 300 comments being posted on the Capcom Unity forums. When the Alternative Edition released in Spring 2010, all that is needed now is an internet connection and the original RE5.

It’s really interesting to see that Capcom is listening to the fans and won’t be requiring gamers to buy RE5 again.  However, it doesn’t seem like RE5:AE is anything like Super Street Fighter IV, where the core gameplay is being tweaked, expanded on, and completely redone in so many different aspects of the game. It was teased though that there are more details about the AE that have yet to be revealed, so you never know what could be announced. Exciting!

What do you think about this news? Are you happy that you don’t have to rebuy RE5 for the additional content? How much do you think this DLC will be?
