It’s that time of the year again when people reflect on the gaming year gone by and start declaring their unending love for certain titles. Yes, the award season is upon is.

The VGAs are probably the most prominent of back-slapping displays in the gaming industry – one part Oscars, one part Geeks Gone Wild.

This year’s nominations are now up, with Sony picking up a stonking 17 nods in multiple categories.

The big one though, 2009′s Game of the Year, will be contested between Assassin’s Creed II, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Left 4 Dead 2 and, you guessed it, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

The winners will be announced on December 18th.
