We’re not going to pretend that the following is anything of a shock, but when new games get the official nod from on high, we’re duty bound to report it as breaking news.

So, eh … yeah, EA have confirmed that a sequel to one of the best new IPs of last year, Dead Space, is officially in the works.

But you already knew that, right?

We’d love to give you more but details are scarce at the moment. What we do know is that Visceral Games will return as developers, as will zero-G protagonist Isaac Clarke. This time out, Isaac will be “taking the fight” to the Necromorphs, and will have a whole host of new limb-loosening tools for the tricky job at hand.

Nick Earl, Senior VP and Group General Manager at EA, says:

“The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of Necromorphs that need killing. In Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you.”

Currently there is no release window for Dead Space 2. We’ll keep you posted.
