Heavy RainEurope and North American may be two countries divided by a common language, but it’s the differences in box art which is where the real fracture can be seen.

Case in point, check out the following box art for next year’s Heavy Rain.

Though both contain the key imagery associated with The Origami Killer, there are a few noticable differences between the covers – namely the lack of rain on one and the presence of newspaper clippings on the other.

And the fonts differ. Can’t forget about the font.

Which one do you prefer?

EU

Heavy Rain

Or NA?

Heavy Rain

We’re leaning towards the former as it’s cleaner and has, well, more rain. Thoughts?

Both good – hinting at a dark and foreboding story. I’d be happy with either. Though to be honest, box art never particularly bothers me; it’s the game inside that’s important. Apart from when I first buy a game, I rarely look at the cover – only the name on the spine as I look for it on the shelf.

I like the EU version, NA one looks cluttered

now that I think a little more about them, I think Sony is confident on the sales of the game on EU, but less on NA that they feel it is needed to show to the NA buyers a lot of award icons. Probably they are right, the art style of this game is not something that is easy to sell to the NA audience

The EU looks 100x’s better to me. The NA one looks a bit cheesy somehow. I like looking at the raindrops on the EU one.

EU one so much better.. The NA one looks like a fanart one?

I prefer the one with the newspaper background.
It gives the game an element of ‘realism’ and gives clues to the story. it adds content. more visual narrative to the cover.

The cover with just an origami and rain says nothing about anything

My vote goes to the EU version, it looks more sinister to me. And as said above, the US one looks cluttered, especially with those award badges on the bottom

  • theturk says:

    I disagree.
I don’t think there is anything sinister about an origami creature left out in the rain.
The cover must say something about the game. The EU cover says nothing. It could easily be another eyepet type game of ‘things to do on a rainy day 1.00: origami’
To anybody not up with the game It’s a meaningless cover.
What if the first Indiana Jones film was just a whip and hat on a sandy floor. Or the first Uncharted cover a glinting doubloon on a rock, or a light sabre for the first / third whatever star wars movie.
Sorry, the EU cover is so sublime its meaningless.
The cover must as a rule have something on it that makes the customer want to know more.
The EU cover is so Meh!

EU is better for me though I prefer the US font because it was in every trailer yet.
On EU cover I like the blood on the ground. And look on it in the US one. It is…. shitty. Propably origami killer was eating a hot dog there and he lost some ketchup :D

  • Ducer15 says:

I like the EU one. Cleaner and more stylish.
