Incoming! Firmware 3.15 “very soon”; brings Minis plus data transfer
Welcome back to PS3 Attitude. You're a regular here, so why not visit PS3 Attitude TV too...
It seems like only yesterday when we were updating to firmware 3.10 (well, for some of us, it actually was) but it looks like Sony have more *ahem* wares for us with James Thorpe popping up on the official EU blog with news of a 3.15 system update.
First things first: it’s optional.
Second things second: it adds the following to your PS3.
- Minis are now available for your PS3. Originally marketed toward the PSP and its UMD-less cousin, the Go, it makes sense that these new byte-sized games will now be available to play on the PS3.
- PS3 Data transfer
For those of you with one PS3 in the living room and another for the kids who have been unceremoniously exiled to under the stairs, you can now transfer data between the two. What can you transfer exactly?James obliges:
Content such as games, game save data, and videos downloaded from PlayStation Network can be transferred to the new PS3 system and deleted from the current PS3. Other content, including personal media files (photos, music, videos), can be copied onto the new PS3 and remain on the current PS3 system.
The update is promised “very soon” with the likely candidate being this Thursday.

Would be handy if you wanted to have a back-up machine.
I wonder if this is linked to the US army, or was it the US air force, buying a lorryload of machines a few weeks ago.

yeah probably. but it suits us too.
what do you mean that the update is optional? i can just skip it and keep playing online?

Yes, you will not be prompted when logging online. If you go to System Update however it will find the update and install it.

It says that if you transfer games and save data to another system, they will be deleted on the original system. But what if I want to carry on playing those games? Redownload it?

Well, it turns out that copy protected saves cannot be transferred this way according to the replies on the PSblog.
My heart is broken.
