All-time high of 3.8 million PlayStation 3s sold in December

Another piece of news to come out of the Sony conference at CES this week that should be music to the ears of their investors is that December set an all-time high for sales for the PlayStation 3.

In the five weeks of last month, the PlayStation 3 sold 3.8 million consoles worldwide.

In the US alone, 1.7 million consoles were sold in the same period which makes up around 45% of global sales for that month.

The new price point, revised system, great titles such as Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2, Assassin’s Creed 2 and more must have been a major catalyst for this success.

With sales like these, what it really means for us gamers is that the interest in the console by developers can only increase as the console sports a lot more gamers than ever before.

With games such as Final Fantasy XIII, Heavy Rain, God of War III, Gran Turismo 5 and ModNation Racers all due out in the coming months, the PS3 is set for another cracking year!
