This may come as a surprise to many, but Activision has pointed out that  DJ was in fact the highest grossing new IP for the whole of 2009 in both the United States and Europe.

Now obviously the high price tag had something to do with it, but when you consider the amount of big games out last year, it is a bit unexpected.

Another reason for this success is because 2009 was the year of the sequel. Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, Assassin’s Creed 2 were some of the biggest games for the year, and new IPs were largely overshadowed.

But even inFAMOUS failed to take in as much money from consumers as DJ Hero did – of course inFAMOUS was not multiplatform.

So even though many critics try to label the game a failure, you can’t argue that in terms of the industry, DJ Hero was far from it.
