Callofdutymodernwarfare2boxart Modern Warfare 2 passes the $1 billion markThough it took a little longer than Avatar to reach the same milestone, Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has now passed the one billion dollar mark in retail sales worldwide.

It’s a remarkable achievement, and one only a select few entertainment properties have managed to accomplish.

Activision’s CEO, Robert Kotick, had this to say regarding  the mammoth landmark:

“Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2 has exceeded our expectations and shattered theatrical box office and video game record. There are only a handful of entertainment properties that have ever reached the $1 billion mark, which illustrates the power of the Call of Duty franchise and mass appeal of this game.”

It’s hardly surprising that Modern Warfare 2 has finally left the one billion marker behind. After all, it did sell $550 million in its first five days. A feat even Avatar didn’t achieve.
