Codemasters send Heist directly to jail

Submitted by on Monday, 1 February 2010One Comment

Codemasters have announced that Heist – their criminal action title set in 1969 – has been cancelled as the team strives for ‘high quality titles’.

First up we should ask Рdoes anyone actually remember Heist?  Information about it has been so sparse lately we were beginning to wonder if we had actually imagined the game in the first place.

In all fairness the game did sound promising; plan a bank robbery, recruit your team, rob the bank and make a swift getaway.

Codemasters had the following to say;

“After a much extended development period, Heist has been terminated as a project and removed from our release schedule.

Codemasters is focusing its future portfolio on high quality titles that will, in the majority, be developed and produced by our internal studios.”

Reading between the lines of that statement, it would seem that Codemasters fingers have been burned by one-too-many third party developers, and they are now going to focus on having their own team create future titles. Heist was clearly the straw that broke the camel’s back.

So what’s the verdict – happiness, sadness or a massive shoulder shrug?
