Ever wanted to drive over Lara Croft? Well you’re in luck!
One of the last times Lara Croft was mentioned at Attitude Towers, it caused a bit of a storm. This time things are much less heated, and far more public spirited!
A new £36.2 million road in the UK city of Derby has been named after the Princess of posh herself, Lara Croft.
89% of 27,000 people voted to name the Osmaston Road to Burton Road stretch of the new route Lara Croft Way. This is very fitting as The Tomb Raider franchise was created in Derby by Core Design.
Councillor Lucy Care, cabinet member for planning and transportation, had the following to say;
“The vote really captured the imagination of people from across the world and, despite my lack of gaming knowledge, I accept that a majority of 89 per cent for Lara Croft is too overwhelming to ignore.
She was created in Derby and deserves to stand alongside some of the more traditional icons of the city.”
Amongst all the doom and gloom of recession and redundancies, we think it’s great to report a bit of light hearted, fun news.
