The Homerun – 4th February 2010; Musicality, PixelJunk, Villain’s Lair and more

Submitted by on Thursday, 4 February 20102 Comments

Welcome back to another Homerun! This is the place for news and views on the latest content to arrive in PlayStation Home.

We’ll start with North America this week.

First of all is the introduction of the Villian’s Lair personal space that Sony describes as “one of the most highly interactive personal spaces” ever to be released for the service.

The space includes an aquarium infested with sea life including sharks, a private museum filled with all the things you have collected on your way to the top, and two mini-games.

The games are a strategy challenge where you can plot your next course of action for world supremacy, and a village destroy game where, as the name suggests, you must annihilate anything in your sights by choosing various forces of nature.

But the best way to describe this space is with audio visual material so below we have a trailer that will tell you everything you need to know, except the price.

Also included in this week’s update are a massive load of virtual items ranging from furniture for the new Villain’s Lair space to wigs and animated clothing.

There are also a load of events going on in PlayStation Home. From tomorrow to Sunday, Madden NFL 10 game parties will be running in celebration of the Super Bowl. Between the hours of 6pm and 10pm PT you will be able to join in on the fun from the Central Plaza. Colts or Saints fan, there will be people to support your team.

Sony also remind us that team and player jerseys are available from the EA Sports Complex and Mall, so make sure you’re wearing one or other avatars may get suspicious.

Meanwhile in Europe, two PixelJunk spaces and the Musicality personal boom house are available.

Who needs Guitar Hero or Rock Band!?

We have already talked about the music-creative personal space but to recap, in it you and three friends will be able to mash together your own music from keyboards to guitarsin a similar fashion to games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero – but this time you’re just using the DualShock.

The PixelJunk spaces come in the form of a museum with displays on all four of the games in the series. The second space is the PixelJunk Shooter Exhibition with items displaying that you can unlock in PixelJunk Shooter – yes playing this great game unlocks rewards in Home.

This room is funky

If you’re looking for more virtual clothing, MAG T-Shirts can also now be bought for all three factions: S.V.E.R, Raven and Valor.

Pick of the Week: Easy ones this week again. For North America we recommend the Villian’s Lair personal space if you’re looking for something new and different, and are prepared to pay for it. For Europe, the PixelJunk spaces have to be our highlights because they are free!

That is it again for another week. In a recent interview with IGN, Sony promised increased media offerings and big partnerships in Home this year, and insisted that more content will give greater incentive for gamers to drop into the service. We hope that the promised enhancements to the service materialise and make PlayStation Home an even better place to live in.
