LEGO: Harry Potter Years 1-4 to be released in May

Submitted by on Tuesday, 2 February 20102 Comments

Warner Bros have announced that LEGO: Harry Potter Years 1-4 will be arriving sometime in May.  But with the lacklustre reception LEGO Indiana Jones received, has the LEGO franchise run its course?

The game will be focusing on the first four books – The Philosopher’s stone, The Chamber of Secrets, The Prisoner of Azkaban and The Goblet of Fire.  We are assuming that books five through seven are going to be released as a second game.

Warner Bros tell us that the title will;

“Give gamers the chance to experience the magic and adventure of Harry Potter in a uniquely LEGO way. Playing as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, as well as more than 100 other favourite characters, gamers will have the opportunity to attend lessons, cast spells, mix potions, fly on broomsticks and complete tasks to earn rewards.”

Players can expect to explore locations such as Hogwarts Castle, Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley (the Wizards equivalent to Oxford Street!), and the infamous Forbidden  Forest.

It all looks quite promising, and has been given a charm that has sadly been lacking in the more ‘realistic’ game versions of Harry Potter that have been released in the past.

Will anybody be buying this?  LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Batman have done very well, but LEGO Indiana Jones wasn’t particularly well received.  Is LEGO getting boring or is it all down to the source material? Let us know in the comments…
