Lost Planet 2 on the Xbox 360 has had content removed – the Blu-ray Vs DVD debate resurfaces

Submitted by on Friday, 19 February 20107 Comments

Before the launch of the PS3, Sony was touting Blu-ray as the way forward, and DVD as the wrong format for true current gen games.

Has time proven them right?  Judging by Capcom’s reaction, we think yes.

Lost Planet 2 is shaping up to be one of 2010’s top tier games.  The visuals look great and the scale of some of the bosses is epic. Obviously all this detail takes up a lot of space – something the Xbox 360 apparently lacks.

Speaking to the Japanese press, the producer of the game – Jun Takeuchi – had the following to say;

“The edited content was way too much, and dealing with that was more difficult than anything.

The content that was cut was significant and in the end, we had to wrestle with disc space.”

Takeuchi-san followed this up by saying that the team were very distressed about the amount of stuff that had to be removed from the Xbox 360 version to get it to fit onto a DVD.

Fear not though Xbox owners, Takeuchi-san did hint that this cut material could reappear as DLC; we wonder if Capcom will be charging for it?
