Natal will destroy Sony’s motion controller

Welcome back. You're a regular here, so why not follow us on Twitter too...

straight jacket e1266870389496 Natal will destroy Sonys motion controllerMichael Pachter has once again emerged from his fortress in the clouds to thrill us with yet another amazing prediction.

For Sony’s sake we hope this one is way off.

It’s going to be an interesting year in terms of new peripherals.  Microsoft’s Natal and Sony’s motion controller are going to provide an interesting – if different – take on gaming.  We are looking forward to it, as long as we don’t end up with ‘generic party game’ being released five times a year.

Not everyone sees it as a fair fight though.  Struggling with the sleeves of his straight jacket, Pachter had the following to say;

“I think that the Sony motion controller will have some problems gaining traction, since it is not an “in the box” solution.  That will probably limit adoption to one or two million at the outset.

A year or so after launch, there will be 10 million [Project Natal units] out there, which will probably attract more third party support.”

Now, we aren’t maths wizards here at PS3 Attitude, but that means Natal would eclipse the motion controller by at least 5:1 – this seems like a tall order, especially with the PS3′s recent sales hike.

We think Pachter should leave the predictions to Mystic Meg.

    Huh?

Does that mean what I think it means… that the PS3 controller isn’t supplied with the console?

    If so, then what’s Natal?

  • Folken24 says:

I was trying to figure out that one too, as far as Im aware both products are standalone, and don’t come with the console.

Ten million in a year. That’s product units remember. He’s talking in Microsoft language and does not factor in real world physics such as ‘long term fully functional, fit for purpose device’. In these terms he’s referring to about three.

The real question is… what will happen with the Wii? :p

  • Folken24 says:

Haha take that nintendo!! :o p seriously though, I wonder what their reaction will be…a new coloured wii lol?

    hello …

i LOLed at that comment, yeah he can predict what he wants, we know the truth will be otherwise.

10 million Natal would mean 10 million more Xbox360 out there that are still up & running out of 30 million sold, hummm i seriously doubt it.

    cheers!

Aye, I think it’s probably a bit of a stretch – at the end of the day, Natal is an add-on, and for it to get that kind of traction, it will have out-performed every other add-on for a games console ever made by a fair margin (I’m fairly sure). Still, we’ll see what happens :) .

As for Pachter, like all analysts, his record is a little hit-and-miss – I’d trust the opinion of the PS3A team before his, as they’re a little more out in the real world ;) .
